Google Apps Academy 201 - Organize and Engage Learning with Google Classroom and Google Apps for Education

Building on the foundations in Google Apps Academy 101, this workshop guides teachers in designing learning and engaging students by using Google Classroom. Google Classroom is a document management system that can help teachers get organized, engage students, and promote collaboration through the the use of Google Apps for Education. Participants will experience how Google Classroom organizes assignment and class folders automatically in Google Drive. Participants will experience the student side of collaborating and creating content with Google Apps, and see how teachers can send, collect, and grade assignments easily using the Google Classroom interface. See how designing learning activities with Google Apps and Google Classroom can develop higher-order thinking with students. Participants interested in going “paperless” will see how Google Classroom can help them achieve that. Requirements: Participants must have access to Google Classroom through their school domain in order to build their learning environments in this workshop. To check if you have access to Google Classroom, go to classroom.google.com and sign in with your Google Apps account. Participants will be given access to a temporary account to practice the use of Google Classroom during the session.

Learning Objectives:
Create courses/sections in Google Classroom
Recognize Google Classroom features
Experience Google Classroom from the student side with assignment creation and submission
Understand folder organization in Google Drive from Google Classroom
Distribute, collect, and comment on assignments in Google Classroom
Build foundations of digital lesson design
Understand how to engage students in research, discussions, and collaborative assignments
Discuss Online Safety and Online Citizenship
Audience:
K-12 Teachers, Administrators, Professional Developers, TOSAs. Participants must bring their own laptop or chromebook. (Tablet may be brought in addition.) 3 hour workshop
